Chinese Engine Development

Chinese-made engines are currently used in the twin-engine J-8, which is based on the design of the Russian Sukhoi-15 fighter, but these are still being adapted to the far more rigorous demands of a single-engine jet.

Right, an expert who thought it's a matter of adapting a turbojet into a turbofan.

The story sounds very much like the old one and I bet they are the same.

This part here indicates that the large bypass turbofan engine is called FWS10-118 (or at least the prototype is called that, the developed version might have different title). It is built to power 150 ton class transport. This engine has already started doing test runs.

Both articles are from Xi'an AeroEngine PLC. They talk about a major project is award to XAE. They claim that this is for the large bypass turbofan engine project.

Keep in mind, XAE is already the main stakeholder for the WS-9 and WS-15 project. It also does 1/3 of the work for the WS-10A and the majority of work for QC-280.

I think XAE should get all aircraft engine work. Much better to centralize R&D and production in one place

i think you still want to split up work to foster competition. but they are definitely awarding bigger projects to xae.
By WS-15, is it that new engine with the T/W ratio of over 10:1 or just an improvement of the WS-9?
over 10:1

I was surfing Chinese internet and came across this photo of what appears to be J-11B production or testing. It appears to be equipped with WS-10a. I showed my Chinese friend, he says that the program this capture came from is relatively new, meaning it was filmed, at earliest of late last year.

It looks like ws-10a to me, but I'll leave that up to you guys.

Also, note, as I have pointed out before, that the J-11B has no green primer (unlike the prototype). I do not believe that composites ever made it into the production version. (Nor do I believe they really reduced the RCS to 5 meters, but that is another story).

That's a J-11BS on the lower right.
