Why do we think this is TVC? Is it just because of the angled exhaust (couldn't it just be a zoomed in picture of an aircraft taking off?)

That said A-mace, was there any text to accompany that picture suggesting it was TVC?

No, there are threads speculating it. Some people think it's just an afterburner during take-off but that looks like water not a runway to me. Maybe if it was water you'd see more ripples but it looks like steam or vaporizing where it makes contact with the surface.

I see. Couldn't it just be a wet runway lol?

Will be interesting to see if this eventuates to anything, but I doubt it will.

5000kw Turbo Shaft Engine. Is it used on any China made helicopter?

Didn't see this until now. But... wow. a 5000 kw class engine? That is mightily more powerful than china's current gen of engines. Once that completes development it would represent quite a leap in capabilities.

For comparison, current most powerful engines on Y9 variant are said to be 3,800 kw, but most Y8 variants in production now still use 3,200 kw engines. As for helicopters, strongest ones go to 1,500 kw and near future models for z15/z20 seem to be setting 1800 kw as their goal.

While helicopter use seems a bit unlikely, as two such engines would be enough for a CH53 type of helo, airplane usage could be quite intriguing. Imagine such power per engine in a two engined carrier borne AEW airplane. E-2D uses two 3,800 kw engines, but it's somewhat smaller plane than a Y7 variant would be and it does have the luxury of catapult assisted take offs.

surprise, surprise, russia's 117S jet engine among display seen in Beijing aerospace exhibition, yet,at same time russia vow not to sale the 117S engine to China worrying that China might clone it.unless, they realize China may have achieve some sort of technological breakthrough.
