Chinese Engine Development

Right now, all it matters is internal improvement of AVIC jet engine manufacturing.

The biggest Move could be CAC getting involved into that like taking over WS13 Program from Ghuizhou and doing WS10A production line for its J10A/J10B fighters.

SAC 's WS10A production is for its J11B and J15 fighters.

This way each division is doing production for its own fighters. And it will clear which division doing a better job .

Definitely AVIC needs to overhaul structurally.

Really? how many engines has CAC develop/built so far? Do you think its easy to do that? better to deliver the project to XAC. They already have WS-9 and WS-15 AFAIK.

One very important thing remember is not to let CFM LEAP-X powered C919 planes proliferated too quickly inside China.

CHina has to slow it down this program to wait for the cloning of CFM LEAP-X to catch up.

The goal is learn certification and have sample of LEXP-X to clone. And it takes time.

if too many CFM LEAP-X powered C919 running in China then they are setting the bar too high and will have detriment to domestic version.

China needs to slow down on this and don't ruin its internal market. That's very important.

Better than Guizhou. XAC has their hands full already with WS15, WS18, JH7B, Stealth Bomber...etc.
That's what I am proposing. Let CAC to start to take a bite.

As of now, CAC hasn't even begin but they can catch up quickly like Lavi project.

Because CAC has a lot more talent base, once they learn the basics, they can expand much quickly.

I think China just trying to learn the the certification process and get it's hand on LEAP-X engine and clone it. There's No doubt in my mind.

I do not think China has the preconceived notion or hope of selling much of its C919 to western countries.

If C919 become completely indigenous later and occupied predominantly the Chinese Market and some other second tiered or third tiered countries it would be a Success.

I don't think it's going to be a failure. Getting rid of Beoing and Airbus monopoly in China alone is already a big success.

China do not put too much hope of selling them to western countries.

Definitely African countries, some muslim countries and some latin america countries and some asian countries will buy this plane for their internal domestic flights. That would be good enough.

Anyway, if China holding a grudge against CFM now, then CFM will pay later as China will not cooperate with them for joint project.

The C919 tries to use a top-down approach to win market share and is simply a wrong way to go about things in my opinion. China should have stick with its successful bottom-up approach by first becoming a giant supplier for sub-systems. But enough of that.

Looking back at WS-10, China first got the CFM engines in 1982, but it wasn't until 2009 that WS-10 starts entering mass production. In the intervening years, China has to redo all the researches that the West has already done. Processes such as the making of single crystal blades are technologies that will not be transferred, and cannot be learned by buying then studying an engine.

Having gone through the WS-10 development process and with the WS-15 nearing completion, China should already have all the technologies to build an equivalent to the LEAP-X engine. Getting LEAP-X engines would contribute little to China's knowledge. The only problem is that the design and engineering phase of a new engine would take take China ten years or more, and that will severely delay the C919 program. So, China's intention for the LEAP-X is to enable the aircraft get off the ground quickly while being efficient enough to be competitive. This is similar to what China has done with the J-10, J-11B, J-20 and Y-20 -- use a foreign engine first until the domestic version becomes available.

Looks like Shenyang Liming can't play tricks anymore. The PLA top brass is real angry... I bet if they cannot deliver. Punishment will even be death.

You can take pictures of the most secret aircraft manufacturing facilities and only be fired, I don't think failing to deliver products on due date would warrant a death sentence.

Mostly the failure to deliver even after the CCP top brass has given specific instruction will be due to corruption.

Remember the former head of China railway corruption cases. Even Jiang Zemin which is his close comrade couldn't save him(Liu Zhijun) after a series of his corruption exposed and severe accident happen.

He was given death sentence...

I believe PLA will not hesitate to kill one to set example when comes to national concern especially aeroengine.

Sorry... got to chimp in here.

Why would you say failure to deliver after the top brass had given specific instruction will be due to corruption? There are hundreds of reasons why a project would be delayed. First off, the technology might not be matured enough, the engineers and designer might still find problems with the design, there are supply chain and logistic issues, some components cannot be made on time, etc etc.

The other example you gave is mainly due to corruption that ultimately caused disaster, it was proven to be corruption and so Liu Zhijun was given the death sentence (it is a totally different case as the above mentioned).

Unless it is proven that the delay was caused due to corruption on anyone's part, then you can see death sentence being handed out.
