Foreigner already can buy an apartment in China.
1. Eligibility Requirements

To purchase residential property in China, foreigners must meet the following conditions:

Hold a valid Chinese residence permit (work or residence visa, not tourist visa).
Have lived in China for at least one year on a valid visa/residence permit.
Have worked in China for at least one consecutive year with proper employment documentation.
Purchase is for personal residential use only (not for resale or commercial use).
Must not already own a residential property in China.

I was hoping they'd let people on a tourist visa buy property

What you see as a solution is what Trump and his people see as a problem. They know they are consuming affordable goods thanks to China but they see it as a problem because they no longer want America to be a consumer nation. They want to dial back the clock and go back to being a producer and creditor nation.

As long as speculators can make more money from scam cryptos there is snow ball’s chance in hell of the U.S. becoming a producer nation.

China widened its lead over Japan as the world’s top vehicle exporter last year after toppling its East Asian neighbor for the first time in 2023, according to data released by trade groups in the two countries.

Japan’s vehicle exports dropped 4.7 percent to 4.22 million last year, the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association said.

Vehicles shipped from China advanced 19 percent to 5.86 million in 2024, according to data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

The top 10 markets for China’s vehicle exports in 2024 were Russia, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, Belgium, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Australia, the Philippines and Turkey, according to the China Passenger Car Association.

China's Hubei launched its first China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan rail-road intermodal freight train. Exports from Wuhan are expected to reach Tashkent in 10 days, with transportation and insurance costs reduced.

China has discovered world's deepest sandstone industrial uranium mineralization 1,820 meters underground in Tarim Basin in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA) announced on July 18.

Export of 6.16 million vehicles in 2025 vs 5.86 million vehicles in 2024, does not look like a lot of improvement.
