Chinese Economics Thread

Lol there's no reason you still can't buy an iPhone, it's not like the quality of your purchased product is related to Apple's financial success or market cap.

Well I will be out of step.
I bought the Oppo as a mid range stop gap while waiting for the Samsung 7 Note whose release at the time was only a 4 months away.
People who have played with it , rate it above the Samsung Galaxy3. The phone with the two sim cars slot works really well, I have 2degrees operating as the 2g connection and Spark as the 4g.. Although not rapt with the interface, I am more than satisfied with my purchase.

There is really no good reason to junk the Oppo and I could keep it until the Samsung Note comes right. For me the scribe on the Note is the main selling point. I only wish Apple came out with one or even if a leading Chinese brand came out with it.

Ouch, bad luck.

I think you'd have to wait for the Galaxy Note 8 next year, assuming Samsung even chooses to release one next year. They've suspended production of Note 7 permanently and are recalling all of the Note 7s in circulation.

I don't think there are many phones with a Galaxy Note style stylus either... but if it's just a big screen you want, there's quite a few options out there.

I don't think many people would buy Samsung phone ever .... unfortunately ... me included

I think that's a bit harsh; unfortunately these kinds of things can happen to any brand or any product line. I personally don't use samsung phones but I think for most informed consumers the Note 7 fiasco shouldn't dissuade them too much.

OTOH the long term impact on their brand may potentially be damaging, but that's still yet to see...

Of course this is also quite OT to the thread's title, as interesting as smartphone discussions are.

US intelligence in US embassy in Germany tells German officials to block CHina purchase of AIXTRON , citing defense risk WITHOUT Giving Any Evidence. That's PURE BS. More likely, US doesn't want China to advance.

AIXTRON is a maker of LED equipment for Diodes. It doens't make Military products or

Germany subsequently take away the approval for CHina to buy AIXTRON.

So, Germany is a DAWG of US now?
puppet master is everywhere now and alot of it is under the table.

This is how insecure the hegemon becomes. It's stuff pure economic reason and it spins around and tag as military issue.

Using military issue to enhance its protectionism.

Of course the US would do this. They haven't learned their lesson the Intel ban. They'd screw one of their own companies and lay off 12,000 workers just to have a chance to put a speed bump in China's supercomputer journey (how'd that go, bubba?) so why wouldn't they make the same decision again when playing with German chips? They've got nothing to lose! Heads China's tech is stunted, tails Germany loses money. It's a win-whatever situation! If the Germans knew a thing or 2 about business, they'd say, "China poses no national security to us, buddy. You want to keep this out of their hands, you'll pay by outbidding them! And we'll be needing that payment in gold."

From the news , Germany also putting obstacle to China's attempt to take OSRAM.
This is all triggered from US pressure, telling Germany not to let China have its tech.

China probably needs to Boycott Germany to let it know what's the consequence of having government messing around normal economic activities.

The US and friends have been blockading China for decades, in vain. I suspect the owners of AIXTRON are pretty peeved right now. When you prevent people from doing business freely, there's always a cost to be paid down the road.

This is not same thing as Arms Embargo.
China is buying alot of goods from Germany and for it to takes words from US like that is mind boggling.

From the report, US intelligence told Germany officials about the security risk and German officials asked for any type of evidences. US intelligence said it can't provide any but German still listened and setup a road block.

If that's the way Germany wants to play then China should make it to pay a price.
