December Industrial numbers are out. And they show just huge expansion in the advanced manufacturing industries.
On the other hand, lackluster consumer demand is a major problem in China. Retail sales fell by 3.1% in Shanghai and and 2.7% in Beijing last year. Retail sales in the entirety of China only grew by 3.5% last year.

I really do think that China will shock the world by growing at 6-7% once consumer demand rises. 3.5% growth in retail sales is not good enough and the CPC is fully aware of that.

I be thinking that retail sales fell in Shanghai and Beijing is because nowadays a lot of Chinese are becoming more disillusioned with high value foreign brands and are going for better value domestic brands instead. This is not a bad thing in my books because the money will stay circulating inside China's monetary system instead of leaving the country. If you remove retail sales for these foreign brands, I wonder what the average retail growth will be.

Retail sales look fine actually, I'm not sure why it only grew 3.5% despite very healthy growth in basic goods. Maybe deflation in cars and other sectors significantly dragged down nominal growth?
