Many companies license a drug and help fund the trial in their home country. Navigating the trial. Some do well others don't make it due to FDA specific procedural reasons so why take the risk yourself.

US has had multiple stock meltdowns too.
You could either have an economy which focuses on increasingly higher asset prices, so much so that ordinary people become unable to afford housing without a massive amount of debt and a large chunk of your stem workforce decide to become quants and asset managers instead of engineers, or you could have an economy able to design and build 6th generation fighter aircraft, space stations, and massive infrastructure projects. It's difficult to have both.
