that is completely not true. Why do you think Xiaomi invested so much money into smart ACs?
Not a good example IMO. Xiaomi might have tried to catch the wind while the housing market was hot.

Now the housing market has cooled down, depending on whether their products are attracting more existing appliance owners for upgrade than the first time buyers, it is questionable how much Xiaomi is helping grow the markets.

In other words, in the markets of AC, Xiaomi might be helping upgrade more than expanding.

Diesel and gasoline demand have either peaked or are close to peaking.

We are probably getting close to peak crude demand. The main growth driver are petrochemical related. Now, if they can only switch more of that to green hydrogen, ammonia and methanol as input.

Energy independence is important.

well, I don't know the market dynamics but from this, it looks like there are over 800 million AC units in China. That sounds like quite a bit to me.

If I am understanding the debate correctly, it was the growth rate that is in question. No one doubts the size of the existing AC installions in China.
No the debate was that someone claimed houses in Beijing dont require AC because it dosent get hot in northern china, while anyone who has ever been to Beijing in the summer will know thats complete nonsense.

Guess I'm just not as soft as some people. Was in Beijing pre-Olympics.

Temperatures have gotten much hotter since then. Peak temperatures (real feel) in Beijing is higher than Hong Kong these days, although Hong Kong is still champion by far of long summers. Even Hong Kong has gotten significantly hotter than pre-Beijing Olympic days.
I see, climate change has a big effect.
