Chinese government wants businesses and consumers to phase out their old equipments, appliances, and cars for the more advanced and efficient models.

In 2023, the total spending on industrial and agricultural equipments was 4.9 trillion yuans. That alone can support a 5 trillion yuan market. Markets for replacing old cars and household appliances are also worth trillions of yuans For years to come.

China should fund a cash for clunkers scheme where people upgrade to an EV to reduce oil imports. I am not sure if appliance upgrades would help the economy in a significant fashion. If you replace an older low resolution TV with a modern higher resolution one you get a slight increase in perceptible resolution while standing many meters from the TV for multiple times worse power consumption. And refrigerators have been pretty efficient for like a decade I think. China should examine these subsidies on a case by case basis.

How do you generate more electricity for increasing number of EV? Is there enough clean energy when nuclear power is still ramping up?

China has lots of coal. And renewables production is also increasing at a steady clip. If people charge their cars in the night during off peak hours (takes advantage of spare coal or nuclear capacity), or at dawn or dusk (takes advantage of spare wind capacity), you could move a lot of the car pool into electric.
