Chinese Economics Thread

No different when the f..king maroons said something similar at the height if Covid-19 pandemic in Wuhan, China. Making laughable and absurd claims that the number or cell phones out of service = equals TOTAL NUMBER OF DEATH from Covid-19 that China was suppressing and lying about to their people, and the world. I bet @Gogurt4ever you must have also entertained and perhaps believed the plausibility of this scenario, no? How about the parking lots at some hospital in China being used as yet another proof that China was lying about their total number of cases about the virus...even the supposed high-esteemed Harvard University published an intellectually bankrupt article lending credibility on such otherwise absurd and retarded inference. But anything about China is always seen and will be seen as believable no matter how insane and absurd the accusations. The more outrageous the more the monkeys believe it to be true. Xi Jinping getting couped? Lol
all these supposed satellite based measurements of Chinese 'lying' are a joke. they always say "corrupt officials are underreporting because of mianzi" or something. Their unspoke assumption is that only the US has satellites that can monitor global economic activity like a low resolution 6-bit light intensity.

They never seem to think, China has hundreds of optical recon satellites. 75+ full sized Gaofen/Jilin satellites, 100+ full sized Yaogan satellites, then the China Resource satellites, etc. Maybe some of these optical recon satellites could measure light levels. Maybe even if there were corrupt officials, they wouldn't dare lie using something so obvious and detectable using the tools that China already has.

Man, who gives a toss about that dumb, retarded measurement when the real marker is the fact that China is the number 1 trading partner for well over 100 countries, the largest importer of crude oil from Saudi Arabia, the largest automotive market in the world, the largest importer and spender of American designed CHIPS which China spends more than on crude oil and other commodities put together. The largest smartphone market in the world.

I mean, most westerners are stupid and very discriminatory towards China. I mean, these are the kind of folks that peddle Peter Zeihan as some kind of genius geopolitical guru with hot takes like this one:

Despite his ludicrous and beyond stupid analyses that's been proven to be lies time and time again, he manages to find audience bigger than the previous one.

Decoupling from China will be slow, difficult and expensive for companies beginning to rethink their dependency on the world’s second-largest economy. Decoupling from China “is going to happen in dribs and drabs. And it’s going to increase over time.

This is the problem with these people pushing for decoupling.

It is all about the word shit.

The Americans do not make shit anymore.

Therefore, these Americans know shit, about making shit.

And that is the real shit.

Anyone saying otherwise is full of it.

Posting this type of content itself is not the issue, but rather it comes down to the sort of commentary or questions that the OP (in this case, yourself) is contributing with it.

If you were wanting to ask for clarification as to whether the claims in the video were true, sensible or logical then that is one thing -- i.e.: challenging the premise and claims to begin with.
But you were asking what could "explain it", meaning that you believed that the claims and premise in the video made were reasonable.

Perhaps you did not intend it to be bait and did genuinely believe that the claims made in the video were reasonable, but in that case it just means there's a bit more to learn and to be vigilant about, and you're going to continue getting this sort of response.
What I believe to be reasonable is the claim that China shows slower night-light growth than GDP growth, this isn't really disputed, there are quite a few more scientific articles investigating this, such as the one referenced in here:

. It makes very little sense for them to lie about something like this that can be proven/disproven with readily available satellite data.

Does this mean that night-lights are a good proxy for measuring GDP? Not necessarily, and I never "accepted this premise" in my original post. There are plenty of measurement issues, but why China, specifically, shows slower night-light growth than GDP growth is worth discussing. It might be a measurement issue whereby night-light growth in megalopolises is not fully captured, or simply that Chinese growth took place in areas unrelated to night-lights. This would answer my question of "what could explain the slow night-light growth?"

To be fair, I could have been more specific and said "what could explain the slow perceived night-light growth", to more clearly leave open the option of internal validity issues.

Seriously man someone get this guy a make-up artist. I know he has stronk geopolitical knowledge, but props, set design, a wardrobe and makeup are key to a good podcast.

It's better if the podcaster was more good-looking, like this:
