Forget cheap Chinese cars. They stayed in the 2000s

In recent years, the quality of Chinese cars has increased significantly

Vice President of the National Automobile Union Yang Haizeer said that cheap Chinese cars remained in the 2000s. Now, in a crisis, Russians should not expect something like this.
The history of the automotive industry says that as soon as quality goes up, the price goes up. And then she goes ahead, because marketing comes next. The stage of a cheap Chinese car in Russia is over. This has nothing to do with the exchange rate of the ruble, it’s just that a certain level has been reached, money has been invested in marketing, so [these expenses] need to be recouped somehow. Today we will not get a "penny" Chinese car, but we will not get the imperfection that was ten years ago.

He added that in recent years, the quality of Chinese cars has increased significantly. Now these are not at all the “Chinese” that we saw a few years ago. Jan Heitzeer gave a special mention to the leap in design. He stated that he would prefer many Chinese cars to Japanese ones. Improvements in electronics and electrics are also clearly noticeable. The gearbox and the engine, which is often weak, do not always correlate well, but at the same time, new cars are quite balanced thanks to the cooperation of some Chinese and Western brands.

Jan Haytseer believes that the leadership in the market in modern conditions will still remain with Korean cars: “But I think that the Chinese car will become quite a mass phenomenon in Russia.”

You can 100% get cheap Chinese cars. However Russia got to play its part. Slash red tape/protectionism measures, reduce/abolish import taxes.
ASEAN is buying plenty of very cheap Chinese cars.

Now if they want luxury/top-end ICE/EVs then it is natural that these cars are going to be expensive

@tonyget bro I was one of those he mentioned, why buy a Japanese and Korean Cars at a Premium with spartan interior and bland design. Quality? maybe cause I never owned a Chinese car BUT the price alone of nearly 80% difference with the same model range can able to cover up the maintenance issue for 5 years or more. So the Chinese are a price disruptor, making the legacy Western , JP and SK carmakers tremble, sleek marketing may not help as the cost will pass to consumer making it more expensive....lol

There is no space for EVs in Russia, due to cheap oil and cold weather

JAC S7 has become more expensive immediately by 80%. Haval Jolion, Geely Tugella and Chery Tiggo 7 Pro turned out to be “more modest”

The best-selling Chinese car this year, Haval Jolion, has risen in price by 55.1%, Geely Tugella has become more expensive by 46.3%, Chery Tiggo 7 Pro - by 43.7%

A study conducted by Avto.ru found out which Chinese have risen in price more than others since the beginning of the year. It turned out that among the new cars, the JAC S7 has risen in price more than other "Chinese", the price of which has increased by 80%. At the same time, the JAC representative office in March and April does not show the cost of its cars on the website.

The best-selling Chinese car this year, the Haval Jolion, has risen in price by 55.1%, the Geely Tugella has become more expensive by 46.3%, the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro - by 43.7%. These models are in the top 3 in terms of popularity in Russia.

Geely Tugella became the leader in terms of dealer phone views - 10.3% of the total number. Most of all offers were placed for the sale of Haval Jolion - 15.3%. The second and third places are taken by Chery Tiggo 8 Pro (10.3%) and Haval F7 (9.1%).

In the secondary market, Geely Coolray and Haval F7x went up the most (by 37%), but there are still few offers of new cars. Geely Atlas and Haval F7 are resold three times less than, for example, the first version of Chery Tiggo, or half as often as Lifan X60.

Until the end of February, the volume of offers of new cars from Chinese manufacturers increased. But in March, dealers “left” to revise prices, removing a huge number of ads from sale. At the end of March, the cars returned to sale in almost full volume: there were only 4% less offers than in January.

I think more and more countries will follow adding the CNY to their reserves. But I don't think Yuan will replace the US dollar in terms of transactions any time soon, and mostly because the CCP doesn't want to (that would require China to give up capital controls, which is clearly in China's national interest for the time being)
