Statistically speaking, student success is like two orders of magnitude more correlated with family circumstances (i.e. parents not divorced, actually around, parents are educated, etc) than teacher quality. Even the best teachers couldn't turn around a Baltimore inner city school.

Xi is shaking up China's economy and society like no one before since Deng Xiaopeng. Rather its for good or for ill remains to be seen. The old system is showing cracks and needs to be replaced. But I still have a bad feeling about all of this.
China figured that the long struggle with the United States has begun. Not only did Biden not reverse Trump's most anti-china policies, he doubled down on them.

CCP is trying to shape the entire Chinese society in preparation for this conflict. China's is facing increasingly harsh challenges from abroad. So it needs to have stability at home.

Ultimately, the recent crack downs are all about control. More statism, less individual freedom.

I have a bad feeling about this as well honestly. When you see the state begins to crackdown against identities (such as fan worshipping) other than national or state-promoted ones, it is a sign that the government is demanding collective efforts for a large conflict. In fact, the government is now getting serious about promoting traditional male masculinities as opposed to "sissy" styles. Also, one thing that COVID helped China is to test (and has proven) the state for its ability to mobilize the society during enduring crises. Now Xi and the Party-State can more confidently move this ability beyond COVID. What I will be looking next is that happens specifically with the Civil-Military fusion, especially if regular private companies (manufactures, construction, material deliveries, electronics, etc.) that pass security/political clearances start receiving defense projects en mass, as well as veterans were given higher pay to return to their previous units. What we have see so far are massive expansions of airports and SAM sites in the Southeast and in Tibet and Xinjiang bordering India. Roughly two years ago, the MND also ordered roughly 2 millions pieces of body armor set to be fully delivered by next year. For long time Chinese military watchers, y'all know that the PLA usually does not wear body armor and have traditionally kept only a small number for themselves during peacetime.

This is huge. Cap annual urban rent increase at 5%

I think Xi is "copying" NZ govt policy of renting ... hahhahaah, which is a great thing. In NZ, landlord is only allowed to increase the rent once a year and with 60 days written notice. I think it was become a law this year or last year

I see far too many Chinese students (in the UK) who are socially inept, partly because they spend too much time playing video games.
How much of this social ineptitude is due to the anglosphere's racist all of society propaganda war on asian men?

Young adolescent chinese kids in the anglosphere would not be receiving the positive reinforcement from their peers for doing well socially; they get cut down by jealous white anglos.

@weig2000 bro the last person in the article who bad mouth the Chinese policy didn't get it, if he argue about the parents right to discipline his children then he is correct but he hadn't done it. This gov't policy will force him, so their views and interest align what is there to be mad about. I think this law may be intrusive from the outside but its an additional tool for parents to discipline its children.
