If I recall the psychology literature correctly, people more prone to gambling are those who receive emotional reward for "near misses". That is, if they came close to winning but still lost, they get a high that is almost as good as winning. I don't recall clearly, but there may be a neurochemical or structural underpinning to this.

There's something about Asian and gambling alright. Is it just me or are there any other Asians out there that has NOT step into a casino before? Although, I do plan on going to Vegas one day.

Personally I don't think I have the gambling bug. I go to Vegas and spend maybe at most $20 on slots. I go basically for everything else. Love the big high-end buffets. Always wanted to go during Chinese New Years.

I second this, Casino food are generally great deals.
I don't like to gamble on things where I don't have control of the results, but I do play Poker, Majiang(in the places that have it), etc.

same here mate. I go to casino very rarely and always to sample the food there not gambling. Never really get how folks can hang around the slot machines and game tables for hours in that environment. I do play the lottery once a while though lol

Lol, then probably one day they'll come up with a pill to cure the gambling habit.

The larger casino's in the Netherlands are state owned. I don't think they'll introduce that pill.
The first and last time I was in a casino, fifty years ago, it was a small one in Spa, Belgium, I just looked around and spend nothing.

What...nobody goes to Vegas to "sample" the showgirls...lol? In Texas right now they're talking about legalize gambling again. Although it would improve the economic state of Galveston, but I don't think having prostitutes hanging around the sea wall will add romanticism to the place.

There may be a way to disrupt the dopamine pathways involved in gambling addiction, but if you're not careful, you'll get parkinsons along with it :D
