I get wanting to preserve culture and believe we absolutely should to a reasonable degree. But things change and nothing remains untouched. If people want to move on to modern conveniences we owe it to them to help. Record what you can and accept it's not going to be the same going forward.

Some Westerners just want others to live in subsistence lives. They claim it is better to remain in poverty in order to preserve culture and custom no matter how these culture and custom are incompatible with modern living. I see it as a way for the Westerners to suppress and oppress developing world for making these people perpetuated poor and live by the handout from the West.

The self-important savior complex is strong in Western societies. It's used to not only make such individuals feel superior to others but also to show their peers that they are not associated with "those" people. Notice the sheer amount of self-contradictory statements and accusations in this hit piece? To name a few...
  • downplays the importance of poverty alleviation while stating how much poorer these rural poor ethnics are compared to the national average
  • states the Yi ethnic group were left behind economically while most of China progressed rapidly and then describes China's poverty alleviation as a race to meet Xi's goal
  • states that some poverty is exacerbated by living on high mountains while criticizing relocation to lower elevations
  • criticizes the lack of job opportunities for those living in inaccessible places like...MOUNTAINS...but criticizes re-location
  • criticizes students learning Mandarin and using technology like smartphones while decrying the lack of opportunities for those who can't speak Mandarin
  • describes drug addicts as being addicts because of lack of opportunities due to lack of Mandarin and education magnifying this behavior while criticizing Mandarin language education
  • describes migrant ethnic Yi workers as bringing back drugs and AIDS to their hometowns when they went out to make more money

There are ALOT ALOT more such BS in this hit piece article. It's absolutely amazing how this writer "Alice Su" can get away with such garbage and yet she does because her editor allows it, and probably encourages it just as the American government encourages it. Just another day in la la land.

These Human Rights crusaders would rather have impoverished, illiterate, ignorant ethnic groups suffer in darkness to be watched by future generations like zoo animals rather than live like they do in high rise condominiums using Internet, watching TikTok on their smartphones. It is truly grotesque.

be careful with this guy. he keeps touting this with malicious intention.
LMAO what malicious intention?
Yes I am friend of Xi and Putin and make conspiracies lol

Nuclear is the only field where China and Russia have equal technological level

So the only remaining sector for Russia and China to cooperate is agriculture, minerals and hydrocarbons (for now)

"Muh malicious intention"

Whats wrong in digging "dirt" and selling it to the Chinese? Did I say that selling "dirt" is bad for Russia or degrading?

I mentioned in my previous post that this would be an ideal choice for Russia as it has chronic problems in technlogical and economical development. So better to sell minerals to China so they can get money and jumbstart their tech and econ industries

I think its only in your mind that selling "dirt" is degrading. China has been waging economic war to Australia and Australia doesn't care, it is swimming in Chinese cash right now

Make Russian sales to go through a state owned company and common Russian people will become rich. Even after 1000 years, the world will still need minerals and agriculture products

Ofc tech development is the most important, but due to corruption, oligarchy and other issues Russia cannot reform its system. So better to take cash and then "bribe" the resistance in order to reform the state

You'll need to prospect to search for the rich deposits first which Russia does not have the money to invest nor will she make it a joint prospect operation on their soverign soil resulting to panning out half of the total gain to their foreign partner.
I also do not believe PRC will provide the money only to be sold the natural resources with some interest from the loan PRC had provided to prospect and develop the site.

Thats for sure. China will require a stake on the mining. But cannot Russia cough up some money for searching deposits and then mining. Tiny Australia can do it, why cant Russia finance this by itself?

A highly readable book,

, that explains its history and functioning.
The author sees current policies as a departure from past practice, rather than as part of the deep structures of Chinese socialism.
Powerful targeted industrial policies in China have been generally absent (1978-2005) and have sometimes been overbearing (2010-present), but they have never been a crucial component in explaining rapid Chinese economic growth. That doesn’t mean that government doesn’t matter, or that distinctive Chinese approaches have not been important: it does, and they have been. Indeed, it should be intuitively obvious that the impact of a large-scale fixed investment effort, massive investment in human resources, and the presence of thousands of growth-promoting local governments competing with each other will be much greater than the impact of government efforts to directly intervene in the sectoral development pattern of the economy. Of course, these are not mutually exclusively choices. But targeted industrial policy is still utterly unproven in terms of its impact on China’s development. It may turn out, 20 years from now, to have been a huge success, but as of today, there is very little evidence for its importance or success.
The author thinks that China was well on its way to being a global technological powerhouse before the introduction of all of these industrial policies, thanks to its highly competitive manufacturing sector and skilled technical workforce. So to him, it is not obvious those risks were worth taking:
It is unclear to what extent Chinese policy-makers have considered the technological, economic, and international risks of their
industrial policies. It appears rather that policy-makers have been seduced by the vision of a technological revolution and a substantial re-ordering of global strategic relations and have rushed ahead with an aggressive and decisive round of industrial policies. At a minimum, this is an enormous gamble. As stated repeatedly in this essay, Chinese would in any case have emerged as a technology giant over the next decade or two. It is not necessarily beneficial to have government forcibly attempt to accelerate the process, creating substantial additional risk, waste, and conflict. Indeed, it may end up seriously retarding the global benefits that are potentially available from new technologies, particularly if the world ends up partitioned into competing technological blocks.
But the Chinese government thought that the risks of not carrying out industrial policy were also great. And he does a good job of explaining the intellectual framework that has justified their large-scale interventions.
