lol, its like almost everyone is wrong about anything that China does these days. Its like most things that China does nowadays seems to benefit everyone more then not while every action taken by the US to harm China seems to hurt themselves a lot more. If there is one truth I can get from this, If anyone still thinks that the US has there best interests at heart, then those idiots need to catch this virus post haste rid the world of there stupidity

If true then it will be embarrassing .

It is, in a way.

But business is business. ByteDance is funded by a group of VCs and investors. The investors want their money and returns. It's highly unlikely now TiKTok will become a global giant under Chinese control. The world is moving towards splinternet, with the US and China entering a new cold war.

Only a short while ago, it was so promising ...

Zoom is an American company but founded by a Chinese immigrant and they don't trust it. It doesn't matter if it's American or not. They like the good ole days where the big auto companies could gobble up small start-ups to eliminate the competition. Then they only offered products to consumers that guys in board rooms got to decide for the public.

Remember all that bull about China had to be open in order to spur innovation? It's the US that's the one closing. Take China out of the picture and Americans are suspicious of their own social media companies. The internet is too open for the US. The news media hates how they're not in control of information anymore. The future of the US is more closed not open. Sorry to tell you this but even US allies don't want the US dictating who they can sell to so expect the development in technology that doesn't involve the US around the world. And as the US discriminates against Chinese scientists and engineers, you'll be seeing US innovation dropping too. The rise of TikTok and Zoom shows how they ain't that creative anymore. You know how some believe because the US is ahead of China a certain amount of years in something, they think it means China will never catch up like that's set in stone and can never change, TikTok and Zoom show how that's not the case.

It's all about the unwritten rules of this western led rule-based world order. US and allies dictate all the rules, the developing world has no say.

China must offer market access to western firms so that they can have the revenue to sustain innovation. This is called Free Market.
But China should not have access to the global market, other than for low value-added manufacturing stuff, because it would be challenging western dominance with unfair practices.

In short, innovation can only be western-led improvement.
If China tries to do the same, it means an evil power scientific expansion and seeking domination.

That's essentially the gist of what Western govs and their media outlets tell us all everyday for decades.
