In recent years, the Donghu residential community in Kashgar has been actively exploring new models of service management for groups such as the elderly and young children.

The community's citizen center is equipped with spaces including traditional Chinese culture academy, dance studio, music studio, painting and calligraphy studio, and psychological counseling room. The badminton court, table tennis court, and children's playground on the community square provide residents with more recreational options. At Shaping village kindergarten in a remote area of Central China's Hunan province, a simple meal of pickles and rice was often the only food children received at school. In the past, such a meager children's lunch was not unusual in underdeveloped Yongshun county, nestled in the Xiangxi Tujia and Miao autonomous prefecture.

A two-hour drive along winding mountain roads separates this rural kindergarten from the nearest county hub. Most of its pupils are "left-behind" children, raised by grandparents who often sent them to school on empty stomachs.

Headmaster Peng Nangui recalled the children were often sickly and shorter than the standard height for their age. In flu season, many missed school due to colds and fever.

"Poverty and malnutrition combined cast long shadows over these preschool kids from isolated mountainous regions, severely stunting their growth," said Yi Zungang, director of the prefecture's foreign investment and aid project affairs center.

The Chongqing Industrial Museum, located in Dadukou district of Chongqing, has evolved from the remnants of an old iron and steel company and has emerged as a popular tourist destination with a unique industrial style. [All Photos by Deng Rui/chinadaily.com.cn]





Since its inauguration in September 2019, the museum has welcomed an average of approximately 200,000 visitors annually.





The Chongqing Industrial Museum, located in Dadukou district of Chongqing, has evolved from the remnants of an old iron and steel company and has emerged as a popular tourist destination.



The unique, industrial-style museum was built from a section of the former Chongqing Iron and Steel Group's steel plant. It comprises a main exhibition hall, the Steel Soul Gallery and the Industrial Heritage Park.



The century-old iron and steel group has played a crucial role in supporting numerous national key projects since the founding of the People's Republic of China. It has significantly contributed to various sectors, including agriculture, mining, transportation, machinery manufacturing, energy development and military and urban construction.

Meili Yangguang Jiayuan, a public rental housing complex in Chongqing's Shapingba district, has evolved into a national model for senior-friendly communities since the introduction of an elderly care service center in 2019. [Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn]





Since the introduction of an elderly care service center in 2019, more than 60 activities, including handicrafts, movies screenings, dance classes and health lectures have been organized for elderly residents.

The center utilizes the community cafeteria to provide meal services for the elderly. It also collaborates with community Party members, volunteers, residents and other social entities to address conflicts and offer legal assistance at a local teahouse.





"Through more than a decade of continuous investment and improvement, Chongqing's public rental housing has progressively transitioned from neighborhoods to communities and then to urban areas, evolving into a beautiful living space for the large population of people facing housing challenges," said Xiong Luyi, a staff member of the Chongqing Public Rental Housing Management Bureau on Tuesday.
