Recently, the demonstration area for high-quality rice cultivation in arid lands in Kafang town, Gejiu city, Honghe Hani and Yi autonomous prefecture, Yunnan province, entered the harvest season. Locals celebrated the bountiful harvest with folk performances, rice-cutting competitions and other events.

China's financial hub, Shanghai, has evacuated 112,000 people as of Friday morning due to Typhoon Pulasan, the 14th typhoon of the year as counted by China's meteorological authorities, Sept 20, 2024. [All Photos/Xinhua]







The Yangjiazhai meteorological station in Fengxian district and the Nicheng Park meteorological station in Pudong district recorded over 300 mm of rainfall within six hours, breaking historical records for both districts since meteorological observations began.





Pulasan, the 14th typhoon of the year, made its second landfall in Fengxian of Shanghai at about 9:45 pm on Thursday after its first landfall earlier the same day in Zhejiang province.

Bebinca, the 13th typhoon of this year, churned ashore at Shanghai on Monday. It is believed to be the strongest typhoon to hit the metropolis in 75 years.

The "Three Carvings in Wuyuan" include carvings on stones, bricks and wood, with wood carving being the most representative. Boasting a history of over 1,000 years, the carving craft was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2006.

The Wuyuan wood carving focuses on depicting components of Huizhou-style architecture such as beams and window frames. Various techniques are employed to create exquisite images of auspicious Chinese patterns, reflecting the developing aesthetic appreciation and people's longing for a beautiful life.

Yu Youhong, an inheritor of the craft, is also committed to protecting and restoring ancient buildings in his hometown. Currently, Yu and his apprentices have restored the wood carvings of more than 100 ancient buildings built in the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911). (Xinhua/Wan Xiang)

Hosted by the Ministry of Transport, the 16th International Exhibition on Transport Technology and Equipment, known as China Transpo, kicked off at Shougang Park, Shijingshan district in Beijing on Sunday.

Adorned with remodeled residential buildings, modern pocket parks, vintage Soviet-style red brick buildings and quaint cafes and restaurants, a once run-down neighborhood in Chongqing has become a hot destination for visitors.





Located in Chongqing's Jiulongpo district, Minzhu Village Community was built between the 1950s and 1990s as a residential area for the former State-owned Construction Machine Tool Factory. But after the relocation of the factory, the living conditions deteriorated as a result of poor management.

Traveler Jiang Chaochao added remote Menglian county in Yunnan province to her bucket list of destinations this year because of its reputation as China's "Avocado Town".

"For fitness enthusiasts, this is a huge bonus," said Jiang from Hunan province, who exercises regularly and tries to eat healthy food. "I was excited to learn that in China we have a town that can produce lots of avocados," she added.

During her visit in August, Jiang tried avocado coffee and other unusual dishes made with the fruit. "Avocado coffee is smoother than a regular latte, with the fresh avocado aroma blending seamlessly with the coffee's caramel and fruity notes. It's a low-calorie, healthy drink that's also invigorating," she said.
