I don't think we have any gun here. The character 槍 [Chinese pronunciation: qiang] has dual meanings: a gun and a spear. And it means spear here.

The reason being, those are usually parents of career minded kids too busy with work to find a life long partner and usually the successful one's would have difficulty because they would one a partner that is as good as them. I personally know of ambitious young engineers who would put in 12 hours or more day at work and that's mad. Hope this explanation helps.

Yao Ming, member of Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and former NBA all-star player, was unanimously elected president of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) here on Thursday.

Yao, 37, became the first-ever non-governmental person to take the position at the Ninth National Congress of the association, which was founded in 1956.

"Chinese basketball has a long and bright past. Now the burden is on our shoulders and I feel deeply responsible," said Yao.

"Chinese basketball is based on the need to do good, and we have a great social impact. We also have the best professional league in Asia. That's why we have every reason to believe that as long as we humbly listen to the views from all sides and recruit those who have the enthusiasm, willingness and ability, we are able to complete the self-management, self-improvement, self-monitoring and self-breakthrough of Chinese basketball."

A Frenchman, whose Chinese name is Ding Yimu, has worked as an assistant to the head of Hehong village in Ninghai county of Ningbo, Zhejiang province, for one year, and his main job is to promote tourism.

Ding, 54, is married to a local woman and has lived in Ninghai for 15 years. Before coming to China, Ding has worked for large financial companies in both Britain and the US. Ding is running two companies in Ninghai.

Ding happily agreed to assist Gan Yunya, the village head, when Gan asked him to work for the village in Feb last year, and Ding received the letter of appointment on Feb 29.

Recently, Ding invited a dozen foreigners to the village to see the tourism resources there. He worked as a tour guide to explain the village's history, culture, ancient architecture and environment for the visitors.

The foreigners have decided to turn some old houses into home-stay inns and bars in the village, and a 300-square-meter farm house would serve as a meeting place for foreign businesspeople.
