On August 10, Qi Kunfeng and his wife Wang Yanyan carry their twin newborn daughters who were stolen and sold by an obstetrician in Fuping Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital in Shaannxi Province.

The twins were rescued from neighboring Shanxi Province and eastern Shandong Province respectively, said the Shaanxi provincial government on August 8.

The obstetrician, Zhang Shuxia allegedly obtained the infants by falsely claiming that they had congenital diseases, convincing the parents to abandon treatment and allow the doctor to handle the babies.

As of August 8, police have received reports of 55 similar cases from local citizens, including 26 cases in which Zhang was allegedly involved. Police have launched investigations into five of the reported cases.

Equation.. can you say building code violations:confused:..

Photos taken on Aug. 12, 2013 shows a residential building with a rocky style villa on its roof, in Haidian District of Beijing, capital of China. A resident in the building has spent years to build a huge villa on top of a 26-storey building in Beijing. His neighbors have complained about this oddity covering over 1,000 square meters, fearing its weight may cause structural collapse. Local bureau of city administration attempted to investigate the allegedly illegal construction, but the owner hasn't shown up so far. (Xinhua/Luo Xiaoguang)

Benidorm Building "without elevator above 20th floor" actually does. But you will have to wait a long time for it

The Daily Mail headline says Uno problemo… Construction firm builds 47-storey skyscraper in Benidorm but forget to fit a lift; Dezeen says Benidorm skyscraper built without an elevator. It seems that it all started with Gizmodo, which wrote 47-story Spanish skyscraper has no elevator, just like Spain's economy.

Now from a TreeHugger point of view that might be a good thing; we are big fans of people taking the stairs. But in fact, it doesn't appear to be true. The Intempo Benidorm does have elevators. It is true that the greedy real estate developer increased the height of the building from 20 storeys to 47 storeys, but did not take the additional elevator capacity needed into account. The number of elevators needed is a function of the number of stops, the number of residential units at each stop, and the wait time that people are willing to accept. Here they have more than doubled the number of floors and units, but just extended the shafts that they had in the shorter building instead of adding elevators, as you would have to do to provide decent service.
