A worker operates a sewing machine in a shoe factory in Hengfeng Subdistrict, Wenling City, east China's Zhejiang Province, Sept. 12, 2012. Hengfeng is dubbed as the "town of shoes" in Zhejiang as it has run over 3,000 shoe makers, many of which used to trade directly with European purchasers. However, as many enterprises in the country, shoe makers in Hengfeng had taken a hit from the global economic headwinds, appreciation of RMB yuan and higher production costs. Facing the tough challenge, some factories in Hengfeng forge ahead and survived by pushing forward structural adjustments, increasing input in fostering innovation and expanding new market. According to the latest statistic data, some 20 shoe makers in the subdistrict had made their export rise 23.8 percent year-on-year to 9.217 million U.S. dollars in the first seven months.
