In order to save time treating the infant, Dong Lijie, director of Harbin Children's Hospital Intensive Care Unit and head nurse Wang Dan immediately flew to Mohe, 1,192 kilometers from Harbin, capital city of Heilongjiang.
In the local hospital, after an emergency treatment, the infant got a little better.
After careful consideration, they decided to transfer the infant to Harbin by train, providing a stable situation during the trip.
Because the medical ventilator was not available on the train, the two medical workers had to provide oxygen to the infant by a manual resuscitator bag, which meant they could not sleep for the whole 16-hour trip.
They took turns squeezing the airbag and observing the condition of the infant.
Finally, they arrived at Harbin Railway Station safely on Jan 31, and the ambulance was already waiting for them.
"After treatment in the hospital, now the infant can breathe on his own and is in stable condition," Dong said.
