I wonder if it is just to keep the wing as high above the water as possible.
What was the question again?
I think your right but I still think it must be hard to design a modern seaplane when most seaplanes were designed in the 1930's with slide rules and rulers across the thumb.
If a plane falls apart when it lands in the water does the Chinese designer get rewarded for trying hard and taking risks or will he lose his job?

Lots of stringers and longerons,,, the wing is going to attach above the fuselage and inside that fairing, a little odd to say the least???but the wing will not pass through the fuse, kinda looks like the Tin Goose construction has been revitalized for this baby. outdated, but no doubt functional, in this day of uni-body carbon fiber to see what looks more like a "battle ship" style is a little shocking?

Maybe a way to keep production and development costs down?

I can see units being used for SAR, maritime reconnaissance, fire fighting, and ASW patrols. But anyone think it can be used for civilian transport at remote locations that may be near lakes? How about anti-piracy patrols along shipping lanes?

When using uni-body carbon fiber you need to invest hugely in expensive molds. That is unlikely to be worthwhile for a dozen or so amphibious flying boats. Better to use existing plant for old style production.

China aims to take one-third of the global market for turboprop airliners with the MA-700, a cutting-edge aircraft currently under development, according to the aircraft's chief designer.

"The MA-700 will make its maiden flight in the first half of 2017 and is set to be delivered to buyers in 2019. At least 50 planes will be made each year," Dong Jianhong, a senior designer at

Industry Corp of China, told China Daily in an exclusive interview. "I am convinced that after the aircraft enters service, it will help us obtain at least 30 percent of the international turboprop airliner market within about 10 years."

He said that compared with its predecessors, the MA-60 family, the MA-700 is a new design with lower operational and maintenance costs and more eco-friendly technologies.

Just a typical-Deino-question (especially regarding my huge impatience ) and even more in mind of the latest unveilings / launches for the PLN yesterday, can we expect to see another "aviation-surprise" prior to the Chinese New Year celebrations and holydays ??

If I'm allowed to send a list I would like to ask for:

- news from the C919
- confirmation of the J-10B serials
- transfer of J-20 '2013' & '2015' to the CFTE
- some clear images of these serial J-15s on board the Liaoning

Any additional wishes from You ?

I'd like to hear more about the WU-14 program. More revelations on military space programs such as reusable spaceplanes and anti-satellite weapons (lasers and micro-satellites) would be really nice too.

Oh, isn't it about time we get some close-up photos of the Harbin Z-20?

Yes ... for sure, but honestly I wanted to be at least a bit realistic, however the Z-20 would be nice !

Air international recently showed the pictures of the assembling of the C-919 and also stated that the ARJ-21 was now certified the sources were quoted as Chinese Internet

So I guess we already know that but that's the latest I guess

Yes, but given the latest image I found looks like this ....

COMAC C919 late 2015 front view.jpg

... she does not look different to the ones we found when the wings were mated.

Therefore I think by now some progress must have happened !
