I have read some not-so-reliable source suggesting that the latest PLA equipped HJ-12 has a 2 guidance modes, one being the confirmed IR/TV image guidance, the other one being Semi-Active Laser. The new missile would basically have all of the 3 guidance mode of the early export models combined in one warhead.
How credible is this claim ? Just a babbling of a mad man or something likely for a new ATGM ?

Neither credible nor madman. After all such missiles exist in China. The CM-501G is 10 years old yet it has IIR, datalink, SAL, GNSS and INS. The HJ-10 has fiber optic guidance, TV and IIR. A three mode guidance is not problematic for China at all. But we don't have any photos or material that suggests the HJ-12 has SAL guidance either.

Thank you I see. Would be big if the HJ-12 had SAL guidance. It will make it more versatile on the battlefield than any of Javelin or Kornet, Stugna-P kind of atgm with a single guidance mode.
