Looks like direct fire to me. Indirect fire by definition requires an intervening obstacle that obscures your view of the target forcing you to fire over it to hit the target.

People say the wheel broke off because the Type 59(5 pairs of wheels) can't stand pretending to be a Type 96(6 pairs) anymore.:p

Anyway here's a close up of the damaged part.

Seems like the joint broke apart because of metal fatigue.
Not sure if it's related to quality control or the high stress environment.
Age is not a factor here because these tanks are almost brand new.

It does not look like metal fatigue, fatigue normally have deformation by sheer, this looks more like fracture. like it snapped off.

This apparently is the engine for the 96B...

Just a quick summary of the captioning:
- New 'type-150' engine.
- A clean sheet, indigenous design.
- High-performance in compact form factor.
- First developed for 3rd-gen MBT, later developed into a family of engines used on IFVs, self-propelled howitzers, etc.
- 96B uses a modified version (with increased output) of the 8-cyclindar engine found on the new export self-propelled howitzer.
- 0-32km/hour in under 10 seconds.

That RWS is a good addition, but I wish they found a way to better integrate it.

Ideally the RWS should he slaved to the commander sight in a 3 man crewed tank, or even become part of the commander sight.

That set up would work with a 4 man crew because the loader can operate it when the main gun isn't being used.

For a 3 man crew, it has to be the commander.

Problem with the current set up is that the RWS completely blocks all rearward LOS for the commander sight.

Ideally, you need a really compact unit that sits on top of the commander copula and is slaved to the commander sight; or you have a larger unit and mount it further back like here, but then put the commander sight on the RWS to avoid blocking LOS, as well as to allow the commander to engage threats immediately without having to switch over to the RWS, and then pan around to find the target again.
