old engines will be replaced with WS-20 once those machine finish their life. remember J-10B/J-11 reengined with WS-10.

it will be logistics nightmare to maintain two engines on Y-20 juts like fighter jets. PLAAF rapidly replacing Russian engines.
With the age of Y-20, they will need to maintain two engines for quite a long time even if WS-18 will be replaced with WS-20 once those machine finish their life. Will be quite interesting to see the number of engines they can pump out, It's China first high bypass turbofan and for now used only on one plane.

WS-18 production will also be cutted a lot with only H-6 getting them in the future.

yup.

WS-20's demand is sky-high in PLAAF. with pulsating assembly line i m expecting heavy production. currently Shenyang producing hundreds of WS-10 per year. it will be interesting to see how many units they produce per year.

it will be logistics nightmare to maintain two different engine on Y-20 just like fighter jets. PLAAF rapidly replacing Russian engines.

but how many J-11s have been re-engined? In fact only one batch of B-models

Par for the course for CCTV editing.
Semi-OT for a moment
Lol, someone here or reddit was joking that CCTV is obviously leaving the greenest, most inexperienced summer interns to do military video editing because it's so bad.

I didn't realize it until the YY-20/Taiwan clip last year when they showed the pilot getting into a J-16 with PL-10, then random shots of a Su-27 flying with R-27, then some aerial refueling shots which had to be real only for the fact that YY-20 was new.

My question, is do we know if this is in active service or if it is video footage of PLAAF trials?

Of course, we expect Y-20B to enter service this year but at the same time, as discussed recently, the definitive proof in the pudding is having an in service unit serial number.

I think we don’t know but in fact I’m quite sure it is NOT yet operational aka officially handed over to the PLAAF … otherwise it would indeed carry a serial number. IMO as it is also rumoured at Weibo a painted prototype during OVEVAL at its future home base.
