Actually faster then expected , only 6 years after entering service , this is a major upgrade.

The existence of the said engine is known when Y-20 still at test flight phase, and envisioned as the key component to unlock the design's full potential.
By then, casual observer(s) will have misidentification on more regular basis...

Yes, they are WS-20 engines.
Earlier Y-20s, shown below, are fitted with D-30KP-2 engines:
Newer Y-20s, shown below, meanwhile, are fitted with WS-20 engines:
Notice how WS-20 engines are significantly larger in size than D-30KP-2 engines.
