This seems to be just a standard Y8 transport from what I can see.

It claim Y-9 max payload is 20tons.. But some other sources claim its 25 tons.. What you all think? I doubt Y-9 has such low payload of 20tons. 25tons will be more reasonable for current demanding military requirement.

The old An12 was designed for 20 tons. You expect a new similar aircraft to carry more. You also expect that new aircraft to use 6-bladed propellers.

There is a new photo of Y-9 on huitong. basically its a Y-8 with 6 blade propeller and new nose, similar to the new Y-8 ASW.

Precisely, its a new transport plane.. It shall have a increased payload..

huuhh...i was expecting something with a more modern design, not making a modernized version of a 54-year old design. Is that soo hard? I mean, supposedly they will launch Y-20 next year. They certainly have the capability to make something more advanced than this Y-9

Why fix something which ain't broke?
US made studies into replacing the C-130 with a complex, brand new "AMST" aircraft and in the end they just went for C-130J which as been a massive success.

Besides the Y-9 relationship to Y-8 won't just be a six blade propeller and a hard nose... modern avionics, reduced crew requirements, greater range/fuel/payload, new engines are all dimensions which will benefit.

AMST was shelved not because of its complexity or lack of need. but strategic transports has a greater need...
AMST effort became the basis for C-17.
