Hmm ... but isn't there already the Y-20 !??

As such a wide-body long range model similar to the Il-96, A.330/340/340 and B-777 would make sence, since neither a CHinese or a Russian company can develop a comparable type alone.

Besides that such a type would be usefull for future AEW/AWACS- and tanker roles too.

i'm pretty sure this one is referring to C-929. For a long time, Russia was trying to get China in on MS-21 project, but China did not budge. I think based on the fact that something the size of C-929 is a much taller order for the Chinese aviation industry, cooperation with the Russians is not a bad idea.

For C-919, I think they have already signed cooperation with Bombardier.

I agree that it's a good idea to cooperate with Russia on a future wide body airframe, but that's pretty far fetched, we probably won't see it until after 2020. In the short term, I think the C919 frame still has some military applications, such as converting to AEW&C wedgetail style, or even beef it up and stretch a little to come up with a refueling version when H6Us can't do it anymore.

personally I highly doubt China needs Russias co-operation in civilian aircraft, China already makes airbus plane parts and has extensive experience in manufacture of aircraft

its all a learning curve, ARJ21, C919, C929 and C939, China will master each one, one at a time

Anyone see this pic before? The site where I got this suggested it was a Y-20.

I am thinking why didn't China invest and ask Antonov for An-22 or setup a production line? This beast can lift 80tons max payload

No ... not the An-22, which is simply too dated !

But I agree with You why there was (at least I do not know) no more intense cooperation on the An-70 as a An-12/Y-8-successor and a development of the An-124 ?

They can update the cockpit. An-22 is turbo prop, so fuel efficiency wise is good. Its 80tons payload will even beat C-17.

Is the C929 a wide body jet? Some sources claim it will be just a stretched C919. Seems to me that it will be a wide body jet holding 200+ passengers
