Future space policy is an interesting topic and I think it's relevant for this thread, or the more dedicated one:
Boots and flag mission in the 21st century is simply too small a goal to justify building such an extensive infrastructure for. I think everyone recognizes the real goal here is who will build the more efficient architecture to utilize cislunar space, with water ice being the most valuable resource. For this reason the 'moon race', while politically loaded, is very real in terms of practical logistics.
On a side tangent, IMO the Outer Space Treaty will have to be completely rewritten with the way things are headed (Artemis, ILRS, Golden Dome etc).
