According to the segment for Chang'e 5 on CCTV 13. The spacecraft started its first braking procedure once it reaches 400km from the moon. After two brakes and two orbits around the moon, the lander separates from the orbiter and begins landing procedure. The lander will gradually descend from an altitude of 15km above the moons surface and begin slowly descend towards the lunar surface.
Once it reaches 2 meters above ground, the engines will be shut off and the lander will free fall to the surface. This is to prevent the reactive forces from tilting the lander.
