And when you say 'international resonance' of course you mean western resonance really.

China has a long and rich history and culture and it is only right that they pick the names for their spacecraft and landers based on that history and culture instead of pandering to the west.

After all, how much 'international resonance' did Sputnik have before launch? Yet everyone who is the least bit interested in space exploration and quite a lot more knows the name.

Conversely, how much true international resonance was there to names such as Apollo or Columbia outside the western world? Not a great deal.

Yes, considering the "west" is maybe 60-70% of world economy, trend setter in social, economic, moral, ethical and scientific thinking for whole world for the last 200 years, the world outside china that really matters is the west.

Sputnik and Apollo resonant because they are the world's first, and as the world's first they can dictate exactly what names the world will remember the resonance by. Jade Hare, being 50 years behind world's first, has no natural claim to resonance anywhere outside china, and needs to fight for it.

Well is there a more western or international name china could have given the rover to make it "resonate" more?
It's not like china can or should name it (or any future space missions for that matter) western gods and scientists, it would come across as pretentious to both China's own audience as well as the west.

Until china actually develops a more international groundbreaking project with multiple participants there is no need for a more "universal" name that others can easily identify with. If anything, display of your own culture allows you to stamp your mark on the international stage as a serious player first.

How about something like "Lunar Explorer"? or "China Lunar Explorer"?

Tbh it sounds kinda mundane.
It would be like calling the Curiosity rover "Mars Rover 899kg class" or the atlas 5 rocket "120 ton payload rocket".

Yeah but can the 'west' be able to retain that world economy title for the next 200 years? Looks like Asia will be the next trend setter (again) if things stay as it is. China was the first to cross the Indian ocean and their many inventions has many resonance to man kind in math, science, architecture, arts, poetry, engineer, and literature that helped and enable the "west" to progress and took the next step.
