Give me a break! Such a claim deserves condemation by all. It can only come from people who are ignorant and ill-informed and with a view to demomise China. I'm not sure if people underdstand that China has a cultured civiliastion of over 5000 years. What stages were/are the US and the West at?
No value trying to talk sense those who only know nonsense. Just keep beating them technologically, economically and militarily, and when a line gets crossed a good whipping

The updated version of CZ-2D would switch old 4 hypergolic engines to 5 open cycle kerosene engine (YF-102, 85t sl thrust).
YF-102 basic version has sea level thrust of 835kN, with sea level impulse of 275.5s, and thrust to weight ratio >130. Five of this can be fitted into 3.35m diameter first stage. There will be a vacuum version ready by 2023, and a reusable version in 2026

This upgrade is to CZ-2D by SAST (8th academy). There was a time in 2016 (and before) when 1st academy proposed to re-engine CZ-3B with LO/Kerosene engine. But since the capability of upgraded CZ-3 (called CZ-3C and D) would be covered by CZ-7 and 8, I think 1st academy has dropped the idea. Maybe the idea was only a backup for 7 and 8.

I wonder what is the thinking behind 8th's pursuing the upgrade path:
1. Give the engine a chance to prove itself? This is actually important for finishing the full circle of engine development even if it won't be used much. An example is turbojet engine Kunlun which was not much used.
2. SAT(CASE) wants to try out Falcon 9's business model of re-usage. The engine is at the same class of Merlin-1D. Arrangement allows landing. Vacuum version for 2nd stage. This would be another example of waling on 2 legs. CZ-5ZRL for larger payload, CZ-2D-upgrade for lower payload.
3. If point 2 is right, we may not see CZ-8R any more. Or CZ-8R is still alive, meaning the 3rd leg. In that case, CZ-8R (1st academy) is in competition with this SAST upgrade.

There was a time where in some places the horse was seen as so majestic that laws only allowed white men to be able to ride them. The West worrying and complaining about this is the new high-tech lynching going on here.

Why China will beat them is because first everything in the West cost more to do and secondly in the West someone individually has to profit from it which means it'll cost even more. There's no such thing as a private space company when your primary customer is the US government. Where's all that talk how China will be left behind because it's not private companies behind China space program?

As aside to the space competition heating up, the US Space Force is estimating they could be seeing 300 launches per year from the Cape and Kennedy within the next couple of years.

Does the US Space Force have so much payloads to be launched? It's maybe 10 times the mass they catapulted per year by now.
