Seems kinda unprecedented for China to do this. I think Philippines, sooner or later, will get clapped by China.
IMO this measure isn't for convincing Philippines, that's for shaping ASEAN attitudes when China slaps Philippines for acting like an idiot
China Threatens to Release Audio of Secret Deal With Philippines
China may soon release audio of a purported phone call with a Philippine military official that Beijing claims is evidence of an agreement over disputed territory in the South China Sea, according to Chinese officials.
- Beijing claims Philippines had broken all terms in ‘new model’
- Philippine officials have previously denied entering into deal
In the alleged Jan. 3 phone call, Vice Admiral Alberto Carlos, head of the Philippine military’s Western Command, agrees to a “new model” in handling resupply missions to the Philippine-occupied Second Thomas Shoal in the South China Sea, according to a transcript provided by Chinese officials to Bloomberg News.
The transcript may be released to the public within days, said the officials, who asked not to be identified because they weren’t authorized to speak on the record.
The transcript of the purported call cited Carlos saying that Teodoro, Ano, and the chief of staff of the Armed Forces, General Romeo Brawner, had signed off on the agreement. The name of one Philippine official – listed ahead of the others – was redacted from the transcript. Chinese officials declined to identify that person.
That's typical Filipino butt hurt mentality. Easily angered/provoked, act indignant and self-righteous, then whines the most when it can't act on its violent desired outcome.Filipino spokesperson for the "West Philippine Sea" considers China a barbaric state
Holy crap, if they still deny and China is forced to release the recording that's known as a case of "I tried to give you face but you don't want it". In which case there's strong possibility of an article in People's Daily with the phrase "背信弃义" and followed by some physical ass kicking.

Yeah. It's also extremely rare for China to even release such an audio recording. Has it ever happened before?Holy crap, if they still deny and China is forced to release the recording that's known as a case of "I tried to give you face but you don't want it". There is precedent actually; just switch the Philipines with Vietnam and the US with the Soviet Union. Vietnam at the time was out of control invading its neighbours until China stepped in and straightened them out, and the rest of ASEAN was grateful for China according to accounts by Lee Kuan Yew. Needless to say, the viets were properly pacified and the soviets lost their footing in Asia.Yeah. It's also extremely rare for China to even release such an audio recording. Nice PR move though by China. IMO China has successfully created and pushed to ASEAN the narrative of Philippines being an ungrateful and spoiled brat. Do it a few times and ASEAN itself will say to China to slap it back to its place. Usually that's the game that Americans are very good at playing, so seeing China making similar moves is a good sign
