Philippines will attempt another resupply mission next week, should be a good show I think. I also think US won't be involved which will raise the question of "what is the MDT even good for" should the resupply mission be stopped again. If enough of these resupply missions are prevented I imagine they will have to abandon that ship or starve to death.

Wang Yi is in South East Asia right now, he recently met Singapore FM again. I think China has a;ready delivered an ultimatums to Philippines and Vietnam about not signing the SCS code of conduct. Wang Yi is just there to give ASEAN a heads up if the necessity of beatings arise.

Beijing’s top diplomat Wang Yi to visit Asean members amid South China Sea tensions

  • Foreign Minister Wang Yi will travel to Singapore, Malaysia and Cambodia on a trip aimed at boosting ‘strategic communication’
  • It comes after a Chinese coastguard vessel fired water cannon at a Philippine supply ship in a disputed reef over the weekend

Really, Manila? Are you for real?
Philippines legit think that the US will help it lol

And why even use a water cannon against the Philipines' military vessel?

Just constantly put civilian vessels in front of its wat, if it changes course to avoid collision, good, no resupply done. If it keeps going and rams the Chinese civilian boat and sinks it, that would be like an early Christmas present to China to fully (and permanently) eject Philippines presence from the area

I actually don't think they should've fired water cannon at it. just get a few more ships and block the entrance even more fully. What can they do?

But the idea that America would defend Philippines over a dispute over reef is laughable. The latest American obsessions over China all have to do with Western hemisphere, whether that's Cuban spy station or Alaska flotilla or Chinese illegal migrants crossing the southern border. Nobody cares about a country half way across the world that they can't find on the map. Even Taiwan has only become a bigger issue recently because of semiconductors & neocons pushing the talking pt non-stop

Doesn't matter if China fired a water cannon or not.

It is abundantly clear that the US has gained complete control of Philippines. What's happening now is that the US and the Philippine's elites are manufacturing consent with the PH public to fully, visibly, align with the US without causing internal opposition.

After all, what can internal PH sceptics of the US even do that would matter if they would be immediately branded traitors for supporting China against PH rights?

So that's the US game right here. Top-level decision for PH to fully support (or fall on its sword trying to serve) the US has already been taken, what's happening now its just the necessary manufacturing consent PR

Water cannon or not, PH would just do another thing to cross China, provoke a response, and then do internal manufacturing consent on its public against China.

I consider PH a lost cause for China (was never in contention anyway)

I don't care about the water cannon thing. My post was a general comment of the trajectory of the PH in regards to the US and China. Something that the Chinese leadership itself is aware as it didn't give an inch to Philippines when Duterte was basically begging Xi to invest and cooperate.

Imagine, China would rather invest more in potentially unstable African countries than in Philippines which is literally next door lol

The water cannon incident was just the catalyst, but the indication of that high-level decision to support the US have been there for months already
