In the coming years as China's economic and military strengths continues to grow, countries like Singapore and any other countries close to China must be forced to choose or at least allow the PLA some sort of operational access to these countries. I mean, just what the bleeping bleep is Australia (a country that's further than China) allow to have basing arrangements with countries like Singapore etc... If the intentions of these ASEAN countries is supposedly peace in their neck of the woods then allow China to have an equal footing with it's western rivals since everyone in this region knows full well the intentions and strategic objectives of the west. Otherwise, in my opinion they must be forced to choose if China's core issues will be constantly pushed and ignored. These ASEAN countries must realize that win win doesn't mean China must lose or be emancipated disproportionate to it's actual power and contributions to the world.I'm in Singapore now. Today while driving to Changi for sailing on the way to and back I noticed multiple Poseidons landing and taking off from Paya Lebar Airbase throughout the entire day.
What would the purpose be? Just SCS monitoring?
From the article:
A RAAF Boeing P-8A Poseidon Multi-Mission Aircraft has been flying what Defence calls “maritime surveillance” missions from Singapore since mid-October, with data from flight tracking websites suggesting these take place over the South China Sea.
Singapore’s Ministry of Defence told ADM that the RAAF is flying maritime surveillance missions from Singapore under the auspices of the Australia-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP), which it says allows both militaries access to each other’s bases.
