US and China was one step away from a naval battle on July 12, 2016
@solarz Sir if I may, that is after the Philippine had won the arbitration. There is a tense atmosphere at that time when Duterte had just been inaugurated as President, the focus is on him on how he will be able to handle a major crisis, the first of many and he doesn't disappoint. Sir from this episode he earned the trust of XJP and the CPC, we had to thank the former Chinese ambassador Zhao JianHua for his contribution. During the time of Aquino administration all official contact between the two country is non existence, there is China distrust and vice versa. That arbitration ruling should had been announced earlier before Duterte assume office , it was a trap design for Duterte to follow the former administration policy or expect a public backlash. Instead he issued a public message calling for all parties to remain calm and send emissaries to talk , one of them is the current Philippine ambassador to China Mr Jose Sta Maria. It was during that time that he formulated his China Pivot and his independent foreign policy as he aggressively fend off Obama (yes Kurt Campbell) interfering in his foreign policy with a Filipina married to an American Loida Nicolas Lewis spearheading that effort as there are a lot of calls from outsider especially the American for him to implement that ruling. The ASEAN leaders had high regards and respect to Duterte cause he is the only leader in that BLOC to have the courage to say NO to America straight in their face without any pretensions.

Any credibility to the above claim?
Even without language, the mish-mash of images, some from far outside the subject timeframe (context), diminish, or, at-least undermine, the credibility of the spoken message. These thrown-together images simply smack of an amateurish propaganda attempt, or even a conspiracy-theory level presentation.

I’m really disappointed that so many Chinese multi-media publishers simply follow the western standard model of a hodgepodge of images with loud stupid music. This model has only become the convention because of a top-down, Hollywood, MTV, imposition and certainly has no evidence-based foundation for effectively disseminating information.

Then, again, YouTube, Tik Tom, et c., aren’t (hopefully) necessarily indicative of general Chinese practice. Or, are they?

If you don't understand the video's language, I don't think you have any qualification to judge its content.

The focus of the video was on a supposed stand-off between the USN and the PLAN. The video claims that the USN sent two CVBGs to the SCS and China responded by doing military exercises on the day before the arbitration.

The video lists a number of Chinese vessels and says three fleets and four admirals participated in the exercises. The standoff ended when the US CVBGs retreated back to the Philippines.

The above I think should be verifiable, though I haven't fact checked them.

Then comes less verifiable claims:
- The US admiral Harris ordered an advance against Chinese positions, but his order was countermanded when the people under his command checked with the White House. Harris was later given an ambassador position to SK
- In contrast, the commander of the Chinese fleets, Shen Jinlong, was promoted to "Commander of the Navy" (海军司令员), and this is apparently a highly uncharacteristic promotion

The video is made by the 乌鸦校尉, a mainland online blogger with a popular following on weibo and bilibili (mainland youtube equivalent). His claim of supposed stand-off is based on a collection of unsubstantial rumors and suppositions that have been spreading on Chinese military forums since 2018. It was even discussed on cjdby, but no reliable big shrimps ever "confirmed" these claims. It is often brought up in domestic military watching forums to counter the PRC's meekness narrative. The exercises might've been real but there is no way to establish cause and effect.

Judging by his contents on bilibili, he is focusing mostly on Chinese military history and commentaries on current popular IR events. As far as I know, he has never claimed or demonstrated having access to insider info.

For anyone who understand mandarin, here is the link to his bilibill content.

I would suggest treating these claims as rumors just like the Chinese spy chief defection story.

Thanks! Was hoping someone would have more in-depth knowledge about this video.

So, the multi-media isn’t content? Why, then was it included, in fact featured?
And, you can think whatever you like!
The saying “one picture is worth a thousand words” has stood the test of time, and will stand, regardless of your unqualified metrics of qualification.
See, anybody can pretend to authoritative declarations!

Which supports my, non-linguistic, analysis; a lot of fluff and spin!
