They should make some sort of rule that requires the poster to have some meaningful comments. And not just posting propoganda dressed as news.
There is a rule that requires the poster of news to also post their own thoughts on it. Most people ignore that rule. Also too hard to enforce due to the large number of articles posted with the limited mods.

purely one sided propaganda and BS from the US who views themselves as saviour of the world.
China is not the only country fishing in the South China Seas, and singling out China alone for criticism smacks of a smearing campaign.
Besides, China is probably the only country enforcing the annual 2 month-long fishing ban which is vehemently opposed by Vietnam and the Philipines.
Jura, if you persist in posting this kind of article without any comments, then members have the right to suspect you are a troll, by perceiving you as bending backwards to irritate some of us.
and you do seem to have a habit of posting negative articles on China from biased MSM without personal comments.

A little OT, IMO if one was seriously interested in increasing fish stocks, the fishing ban should be for a greater duration, and where applicable a bigger mesh size so that the little fish get to grow to a decent size..

(heard earlier the USN had sailed off Scarborough Shoal in this instance)
The US guided-missile destroyer USS Preble (DDG-88) intruded into the waters adjacent to China's territorial islands and reefs in the South China Sea in the morning of May 20 without permission of the Chinese government, said Senior Colonel Li Huamin, spokesman for the PLA Southern Theater Command Monday.

Li said that in response, the PLA Southern Theater Command soon sent naval ships and air force aircraft to conduct identification and verification of the US warship according to laws and regulations and warned it to leave.

Under the joint efforts of China and ASEAN countries, the situation in the South China Sea has been steadily improving, Li said. The provocation of the US warship endangered the safety of ships, aircraft and personnel of both sides, undermined China's sovereignty and security, violated the basic norms governing international relations and sabotaged regional peace and stability, he added.

“China has indisputable sovereignty over the South China Sea islands and their adjacent waters, and we are firmly opposed to the provocative behavior of the US warship”, Li stressed. The spokesman said that the troops of the PLA Southern Theater Command will be kept on high alert and take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard China's sovereignty and security, and maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea.

China’s coastguard ‘can expect military treatment’ in South China Sea
  • American admiral issues warning as Beijing sends more non-naval vessels into troubled waters to asset claims

The head of the US Navy warned China that its coastguard and maritime militia would be treated in the same way as the nation’s navy in the South China Sea, the Financial Times reported.

China is increasingly relying on non-naval ships to assert its claims in the region, blurring the line between its military and coastguard, which has complicated US efforts in the past few years, according to the report. China considers at least 80 per cent of the South China Sea to be its sovereign territory, a claim disputed by other regional powers.

Admiral John Richardson told the newspaper that he had “made it very clear that the US Navy will not be coerced and will continue to conduct routine and lawful operations around the world”. Richardson highlighted the apparent policy shift to Vice-Admiral Shen Jinlong, China’s naval commander, during his trip to the country in January.

China’s coastguard fleet of large patrol ships has more than doubled to more than 130 in the past nine years, making it the largest coastguard force in the world. The maritime militia, an armed reserve force of civilians and fishing boats, was the only one of its kind sanctioned by a government in the world, the Pentagon said its annual report on the Chinese military.

Under the Obama administration, the rhetoric from the US was not generally belligerent, but the two countries have clashed in the past year. Earlier this month, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang said he hoped “non-regional forces don’t stir up troubles in the South China Sea”, after the USS Wasp warship joined drills near the Scarborough Shoal.

Would sinking coast guard vessels not be a formal act of war then?
No, that's not what it means; it's not a threat to sink anything. It means that the US navy would hold Chinese coast guard ships responsible to the same professional code of conduct as is expected in military-to-military exchanges. It's essentially meaningless because the options on the table for how to deal with them are the same.
