Satellite images from October 23, 2017 show that the Chinese Navy has deployed three new AWACS KJ-500 and two ASW KQ-200 (Y-8Q) maritime patrol aircraft at Lingshui Air Base on Hainan Island. in the direction of the South China Sea.

Hmm, about this exercise: if sea lines are closed for China, that means that they are open for the enemy, and in that case, I don't find it realistic that you could make resupply missions in area where enemy warships armed with AA missiles operate... If your'e not suicidal, that is.

And you think it is easy to close the sea line in SCS? To begin with you need hundreds of ships and that is assuming that the supporting port is still function by then which I doubt it All those bases is Sasebo and Yoklosuka , Misawa will be under heavy attack
Beside the SCS will be crawling with SSK and J20, J35, J11B etc Not counting DF21, DF26,
Remember SCS is on China backyard and she has the home advantages. The opfor need to haul everything from vast pacific
Anyone try to close SCS need to see psychiatrist

Other " revision " Dear you forget all the J-7 first J-8 and Q-5 again in servce about 40 % of the combattants in PLAAF 800 on 2000, 32 on 77 Rgts with Bombers ofc.
And about 200 HQ-2 again in service.

Not easy, of course, but that was the point of my post. If enemy suceeds to close South China Sea, ability to fly Y-9 from Sechuan to Mischief Reef is irrelevant.

Are you saying the chinese military need to see a pschiatrist?
ok .. J/K........ however keep in mind that the fact that PLAN and PLAAF conduct these types of exercises and operations (and probably many that we do not know about) would indicate that they have contingencies in place and do ASSUME worst case scenarios. including and up to closure of SCS but most certainly scenarios where the islands have been attacked, compromised and damaged.
That's what a prepared force does.. to take all contingencies into consideration and practice as such as long as there is even a slight chance of possibility.

China firmly opposes any official contact, signed agreements or cooperative documents of sovereign implications with Taiwan, from countries that have diplomatic relations with China, Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said Friday.

"China has no disagreement with countries having diplomatic relations with China on normal economic and trade exchanges and non-governmental exchanges with Taiwan," Geng said.

But China firmly opposes any official contact, signed agreements or cooperative documents of sovereign implications with Taiwan, from any of these countries, he said.

He said China was seriously concerned about the pacts including an agreement on investment guarantee signed by Philippine departments with Taiwan, which were apparently of an official nature.

Geng said China had lodged representations with the Philippines, and hoped it could stick to the one-China policy and avoid disturbing bilateral ties over a Taiwan-related issue.

J11B doesn't scare no one especially by if couple carrier strike groups in SCS. Till enough J20 be made and assigned to hainan or zhangjiang, the original base then true deterrent be had. If J20 around hainan, no foreign carrier strike group air fighters want to mess around with it.
