The news out of Cambodia,
Because Hun Sen the current Prime Minister , a strong ally for China in the ASEAN meeting, US decides to topple him and replace him with candidate who's Pro-West.
That Candidate was Dr. Kem Ley

US NGO was working hard at Cambodia to bring about a color revolution that could topple Hun Sen.
Hun Sen is not giving up easy.

On July 10, 2016m Dr Jem Ley, the Pro-West candidate was shot at a coffee shop. The government report was argument over money with someone. who believe that!
Speculation was Hun Sen preempted Dr Kem Ley.

US has lost a candidate, so it looking for the next one to topple Hun Sen, the Pro-China Prime Minister.
The Next noticeable opposition is Sam Rainsy, who is very Anti-Vietnamese, So US and Japan didn't like that option.
========================
Some of you thought US will keep quiet after the arbitration, No man!
It working hard from different angles..

The gaunlet is thrown down by the Court in Hague. China is being punked and dissed by this court.
And it supported by US, EU, Aus, Japan, Philippines.
You forgot Philippines and Vietnam, EU sat out the argument.

So, 7 out of the world's 200 nations denounced China for not accepting the PCA opinion paper. Where I come from, it's called "that dog don't hunt."

If some one dissed you, you have to stand up to it regardless whether it has or has no authority.
A better alternative is to flush PCA's opinion paper down the toilet for the crap it is, and that's exactly what China has done.

Well, a precedence has been set - now a country can disregard UNCLOS even if it is a signatory. So it's free for all I fear where respect for international laws are concerned. More disputes to come. This has nothing to do with being pro-Western or pro-Asian or pro-China. Shouting on the top of voices go nowhere, common sense prevail - negotiate & talk sensibly if parties can.

Actually, that precedence was already set last year when the PCA ruled UK's MPA around the Chagos Islands as illegal. To my knowledge, the UK has ignored the ruling.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and say you don't know your history. The precedence was set long ago by several countries, and guess what? Some are the so-called "liberal democracies" and "leaders of the free world." Here's a recent article by Graham Allison in The Diplomat for your reference:

"Respect for international laws" the man says. Do you think only the unenlightened countries should observe international laws, but it's optional for the enlightened ones? Oh, you think only authoritarian countries (like China) break international laws, and "liberal democracies" don't...?

This has nothing to do with being pro-Western or pro-Asian or pro-China. Shouting on the top of voices go nowhere, common sense prevail - negotiate & talk sensibly if parties can.
We agree on the bit about this has nothing to do with being pro-Western or pro-China, because it all has to do with nations pursuing their own national interests. What do I mean? China is feeling its oats and wants a say in how Asia is run. US had supremacy in Asia for 70 years and don't want to share power. Regional countries not named Japan see an increasingly powerful China and want to lock in their interests while they still can. Japan knows it's screwed if China ever pushes US out of the region, so it is pushing Uncle Sugar to settle things (containment, encirclement), while the US-alliance still has decisive military might. There you have it, China has made plain what it will not accept, so the established hegemon need to peacefully accommodate or ready the dogs of war.

If you're referring to China, the UNCLOS specifically allows signatories to opt out of arbitration, and China exercised that option in full accordance with the UNCLOS. If anyone violated the UNCLOS, it was the PCA.

The formations are always oriented toward the sea and started to appear in May, according to experts at AMTI.

"I'm afraid I can't comment just yet," Gregory Poling, director of AMTI, told Business Insider about the hexagonal designs. "But the reason we put them out like this is to collect opinions from other experts in the field."
