There is also a claim that "China" comes from the Qin dynasty and its most famous product named after it.i believe China also mean china as it fine porcelin made in China, hence the name....However if you accept people call you Chinaman...good British luck to you!! Zhongguo meaning "central country' is in pinyin... Beijing is the proper putonghua, not the former British and foreign term... Peking
I may very well be called "CHINAMAN" in the near future as my English is deteriorating as I have refused to converse in English for many years, forcing others to speak in Chinese( and dialects) with me. I have successfully excluded all entertainment in English, except CIA controlled CNA news, for many years.
Subsequently my spoken Chinese(albeit aided with Cantonese and dialects), read and write, is improving by leaps and bounds. Resulting in many treating me as uneducated because I do not speak English in previously British colonized and English centric Singapore.
You may call me "CHINAMAN", no stigma and problem at all.
