Six Chinese working as United Nations (UN) military observers arrived in Syria's capital of Damascus to join the 189-member team already on ground to monitor a ceasefire, upon the UN's request.

The move has brought the number of Chinese military observers in Syria to eight. The other two observers have arrived in Damascus on April 25.

The spokesman of China's peacekeeping affairs office of the Ministry of National Defense said China had selected for the mission six military officers who had good professional, foreign language and driving skills.

Most of UN observers were deployed in restive Syrian cities, in the hope that their presence would calm the simmering tension in the unrest-ridden country, sources told Xinhua.

The observers arrived in Syria last month to monitor the implementation of UN-Arab League joint special envoy Kofi Annan's six-point peace plan that calls mainly for the halt of all violence by both sides of the conflict in order to pave the way for a political settlement to Syria's 14-month unrest.

On Saturday, the European Union sent 25 armored vehicle to the UN monitor mission in Syria to ensure the safety of the observers. Annan has recently said that a total of 300 observers will be on ground in Syria by the end of May.

The Air Force of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) plans to recruit 35 percent more pilot cadets from this year’s high school graduates than last year. The pilot cadets whose college entrance examination results meet the requirements for the first-tier colleges will account for more than 50 percent.

Relying on the Tsinghua University, the PLA Air Force plans to recruit 32 pilot cadets this year. The Peking University and the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (BUAA) plan to enroll 25 and 30 flight national defense students respectively for the first time. Besides, the PLA Air Force will also recruit over 200 pilot cadets from soldiers with college education backgrounds and students of civilian and military colleges and universities.

According to a leader from the Pilot Recruitment Bureau of the PLA Air Force, the 32 pilot cadets that the Tsinghua University plans to recruit are this year’s high school graduates majoring in science. The 32 pilot cadets will form a “pilots’ class” and be enrolled into the School of Aerospace and Aviation of the Tsinghua University for a four-year-long study, majoring in engineering mechanics and aerospace engineering. They will study at the School of Aerospace and Aviation of the Tsinghua University during the first three years and at the Air Force Aviation University (AFAU) during the fourth year.

The 55 flight national defense students to be enrolled by the Peking University and the BUAA for the first time will complete four-year undergraduate education at civilian universities. After graduation, they will be admitted to the AFAU, majoring in aviation flight and command, for a two-year-long training of primary trainer plane and senior trainer plane.

It is learned from the working conference of the China Packaging Federation (CPF) and the Leading Group of the Asian Packaging Center (APC) Construction under the World Packaging Organization (WPO), which was held on May 27, 2012, that the "Military-civilian Integrated Packing Development and Construction Committee of the Construction Leading Group of the APC under the WPO" jointly founded by the General Logistics Department (GLD) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the CPF was announced to be formally established. This marks that the PLA military product packaging construction has entered a totally new field of military-civilian integrated scientific development.

Liu Yuan, political commissar of the GLD of the PLA, attended the working conference of the leading group, and said that military packaging is a special protective means to meet the military needs for military equipment and combat materials. The establishment of the Military-civilian Integrated Packaging Development and Construction Committee will help improve the rapid response system of military packaging services and support which fits wartime features. It is also conducive to the construction of a technical standard system which integrates peacetime application and wartime application, serves both military and civilian purpose, and meets energy conservation and environmental protection demands, as well as the construction of a military packaging quality supervision system.

They should really take away unrelated ads, or at least those dating ads. kind of destroys whatever efforts they put into the facelift.

Just pictures and captions. The pics don't seem to mesh because for one the pilot looks like he's wearing a J-10 squadron patch. The other pics look like an exercise. Then what I've seen of other stuff that don't mention the incident specifically but seem to mention some success of some confrontation show Flankers. Maybe someone can translate the screen caps in the news broadcast.

Here's what the caps say through google translation...

Official broke the news: Chinese Air Force re-F successfully intercepted foreign cross-border
