It seems that chinese pilots are responding to taiwanese personnel that there is no median line. The video mentions that this median line was established by the US in 1954. What is the history of this median line? Has china ever agreed to it? if not, why it has for almost 2 decades respected this line (according to this video) ?

Huh? The S-400 has a range of 400km. The SLAM-ER goes to 270km.
Has China received any of the hypersonic 40N6E missiles yet? Last year’s shipment of the missiles was lost at sea. Without those missiles, the max range of S-400 is 250km.

You read too many Indian news or are out of the loop. The Russians have sent a new batch of missiles months back.

The line was proposed in 1954 by the US for the Taiwan gov't. Basically, any military activities beyond the middle line by TW would not be backed by the US gov't. Notice Taiwan bombed/invaded China airspace routinely in the early 50s, and the line was to avoid the engage of the US in a potential conflict with China. The Chinese government never acknowledge the line.

Unfortunately, the mainlander has to respect the line due to the lack of modern Air Force and Navy during the 50s,60s and 70s. It is common for the Chinese warship to sail along the seashore of the mainland to avoid the potential harassment of TW navy, not to mention the middle line.

Still even back then there was enough friction in the air forces of both sides that one ROC AIM-9 Sidewinder got stuck onto a PLA MiG-17.
