The Chinese national football team exited the asian cup at group stages while Indonesia somehow made it to the next round. It's always going to be a mystery why the Chinese national football team sucks so badly. Like it's not like there's a lack of funding or anything.

I noticed on social media they say just fire the coach or manager and get a new one. But they have done that so many times now. Could it be the homegrown players just aren't good and changes are needed for the system?

Wasn't there something about coaches and co. being jailed for corruption? Or was that only a rumor?

The team is a national embarassment that do not deserve any fund. If anything they better pay the government fines for messing with the China brand! Just grab a team from South America or something and call it a day.

It's the whole system behind it that are bad.

Essentially, due to the amount of people in China watching football, even bad players can earn quite a lot of money -> doesn't push them to actually improve themselves.

The latest guy was jailed for it yes. But they got some of the best managers who have even won the world cup. I'm sure they care a lot about leaving a legacy than short term money.

There's something wrong with the current players. People have noted they lack proper skill basics or fundamentals .It's also applying more to the basketball team which is why they have been performing like crap in recent years. If you try to get into the premier league or NBA, lacking proper basics will get you rejected at the door.

One thing I have noticed is many players in the Chinese football team are around 30s. This is not acceptable since by the time you are 30 in football, you are starting to look at retirement. If you look at Japan for example, they're guys are mostly in their 20s.

Theres no point keeping guys who are over 30 and never achieved anything in the squad. At least if you put younger people in they still have potential to grow plus they are in their prime.

So either the team is corrupt as hell letting these talentless frauds stay on the team. Or simply put, despite the size of China, no one wants to play football professionally

If there was large participation, these old guys would have been replaced long ago with new blood. European countries, players are constantly on the ropes knowing they can be easily replaced if they don't shape up. I see no such urgency with China except their managers.

Let say a Chinese child doesn't have academic potential but does have athletic potential what sort of sports does a child in china play in the 2020s? Most of the boys here in the Netherlands started playing soccer at the age of 3~4 years old. At the age of 6 or 7 most people know if they have pro footbal potential or not.
