I would be conservative and the "new irbm" might just be the DF-26. I don’t expect everything to be unseen, DF-26 is still an advanced and important missile

The geography of the Asia Pacific means that a limited tactical nuclear exchange is highly favorable to China.

We can do a thought experiment. Both China and the US have a budget of 5 tactical nukes which they can spend on 5 targets.

China nukes Okinawa, Guam, Diego Garcia, and two CSGs. As a result, the US logistics and sortie generation capability completely collapses. Japan also withdraw from the fight because it doesn't want its main island nuked again.

In contrast, the US has no equivalent target that it can nuke to degrade Chinese sortie generation or logistics to the same extent, because the bases on the Chinese mainland are dispersed and mutually redundant.

China nuking Japanese and Mauritian land vs US attacking mainland China are 2 different things. If US nukes Chinese mainland, the right response is to Nuke US mainland.

Many US military think tanks are proposing to use limited tactical nukes to cause massive damages or to wipe out China surface fleet because China has the number advantage. So tactical nuke would be the equalizer.

They are not calling for nuke strike against mainland. Their calculus is limited nuke strike on chinese surface fleet wouldnt trigger China sending nuke ballistic missiles on US soil, guam, and Japan bases.

More and more US would hide their key Navy assets far away in the second or third island chains.

I think China must announce they got tactical nuke capable putting into YJ21, DF17, DF 26, DF21. If they don't have this option, it would encourage US doing limited nuke strike as an option.

This is the typical delusional mindset from Westerners. If the US use a tactical nuke on the Chinese fleet, the sailors of the US pacific fleet better had said goodbye to their families because they are about to get nuked too. You don't get to nuke other countries and not expect retaliation.

The US nuked Japan and no retaliation, instead surrendered. What you meant "other countries" here are China and Russia who can retaliate properly, other nuke countries India, Israel, NK, UK and in some extent France, wouldn't be able to retaliate to the US
