All Chinese made air to air missile training rounds regardless of of whether it is PL-8, PL-12, etc etc, are painted in blue color. Since these are not painted in blue, they are not training rounds.

Russian made AAM training rounds are painted in white and have black strips painted.

So, this is active PL-12 on J-11As, I've never seen this before. Is it common?

The 4th Brigade of Naval Aviation in the Eastern Theater is now under the Air Force of the Eastern Theater.
The pictures below show the Su-30mkk2 fighters equipped by the brigade.

Depend on flight mission. Most of the PLAAF and PLAN Aviation flights are training and exercises, thus they will only equiped with training rounds. If they are on CAP over the East China sea and South China sea, then very likely they will carry white colored live rounds.

Some of the flights over the seas are training missions, so you might find some blue colored missiles on the fighter jets.

Both are common, you just have to patiently go through all pages in this thread, right from page one since you are new here.
