Can anyone tell me if the center mounted thing is a pod or some sort of training round or even a PL-12? never seen this on the J-11A.
I thought that but it looks too long and too far forward, also never seen a R-77 with those markings. That‘s a Russian R-77E AAM
Ok mb.Hi, seems like you're new here.
Welcome, but for posting pictures, want to advise that ideally only post new pictures of the relevant thread topics, as new pictures are released. If it's old pictures or not particularly interesting (unless a rationale or question is given), it is probably not very ideal to post them.
For example, for these pictures if they're new and high resolution, or showing something that is new, then no worries, but otherwise consider if posting their pictures adds things to the thread.
Our threads aren't really an aggregate for all pictures, just as advice.
All Chinese made air to air missile training rounds regardless of of whether it is PL-8, PL-12, etc etc, are painted in blue color. Since these are not painted in blue, they are not training rounds. To continue on J-11A possibly carrying PL-12, resized a few images for your consideration. Also noted that it doesn't look to be a R-77 and definitely not a R-27 and shares the font found on other Chinese weapons but not Russian ones and I was under the impression that PL-12 training rounds were blue.
You guys probably know more than me so do you think this is a training round or something that may become common on 11As?
Top image is a zoom in on a 11B carrying PL-12 and bottom is 11A. Also decided to add a screenshot from the DCS World model viewer of their SD-10 model in between.
