What is the triangle box in front of the IRST ? It's a part of a missile launch detection sensors suit or just a wind deflector for protecting the IRST ?

More like a debris deflector, I'd reckon.

This is a quantum leap forward from J-7 to J-16.

I'd imagine it a bit like going from F-5E to F-15E.

A marked improvement in capabilities, for sure, but a rather natural and straightforward progression nonetheless, without necessarily a lot of leap-frogging from one type to the next.

How many J-11 of the B variants (i.e. B, BS, BH etc) have been upgraded to the G variants (i.e. with AESA radar, upgraded avionics, sensors and electronics) so far?

Thus far we have yet to see any twin seaters upgraded to the G standard.

And we don't know how many airframes have been upgraded.

I'm not sure I'd call it special but it shows a KD-88 and pictures of PLAAF fighters with guided weapons are not very common especially ones with decent resolution.

Ahhh okay I didn’t think too much of it because we’ve seen quite a few photos of J-16 carrying kd88 and yj83, thanks!
