One of the pictures where we see the tree, indicates it is landing soon. Thats not the case with the other

The other one is just a close up, the trees could very well be just outside of the frame. The first pic was taken from the ground and I suppose if the second one is as well then the plane has to be flying pretty low.

It's likely a sequence of shots of the same aircraft. The second pic is showing the aircraft about to finish completing a turn, with the wheel half-way extended out. The first pic shows the aircraft at a later instance with the wheels fully extended, and the aircraft fully completed the turn and on its way to land.

Great news. Once the engine problem is overcome China won't depend on the Russians for Engines in times of war. Now it is up to the Chinese Engineers to innovate and design world class engines that will give J-XX a boost :D.

Not wanting to spoil your party but chinese engineers are not well know to innovate, much less design world class products. It remains to be seen if they can really go beyond making advanced copies of russian/western tech.

Ballistic missiles is one area where china has been able to build its own world class tech base. Whether they can make the same in aerospace (and other areas) or not, remains to be seen.
