What's the point of a grayscale rondel if you're gonna paint bright yellow and red stripes over the aircraft anyways?

They were introduced only for the aerial demonstration during the parade to ease formation flying. The regular operational J-16s are all plain grey.

Any idea what base this is? ... with J-11BG operational i thought it might be Anshan in the NTC but the structures do not fit.

A translation or summary would be nice. From what my limited Chinese is able to comprehend, it seems that there are at least 5+ J-11BD aircraft and that it is the most capable of Chinese 4th-generation fighters.

There is nothing surprising about the image itself. What is surprising is the caption, which stated that the pilot of the J-16 used data provided by his wing man to locate, engage, and destroy his target.
