The J-16 is a multirole fighter with an emphasis on air-to-ground combat like the Su-30 and the F-15E. It is not a fighter bomber like the JH-7, F-111, or Panavia Tornado.

Yes but as for Su-30MKK or even F-15E, Su-34 strike ( also eventualy anti-ships ) is their main mission so fighter bombers.

Main difference with F-111 or Tornado, Su-24 capable for A2A BVR combat don't have only IR AAMs

The key difference is that the Su-30 and F-15E are kinematically competitive with actual fighters whereas dedicated fighter bombers are only capable of limited self-defense.

By the way concerning the J-16s that took part at the 81-parade ... I'm a bit surprised (and sorry) that we did not get more clear images, esp. of the whole birds !
